After leaving his office job in 2005 Kito Fujio decided it was time to start his freelance career as a photographer. The cement-moulded play equipment is usually sculpted after animals that children are familiar with. But this wouldn’t be Japan without some weirdness. A few of these sculptures take the shape of robots, abstract geometric forms, and household appliances. Fujio seems to have a knack for transforming these harmless sculptures into objects that would be perfect on the set of A Nightmare on Elm Street. The talented photographer does his best work at night, achieving this eerie effect through good camera work and lighting.

If this is the type of photography you’re in to, Fujio has made his photographs available as part of a series of photobooks that you can find on his website.
