If you’ve ever had to deal with the dreaded “mansplaining” epidemic and have enjoyed the presence of sexism in the workplace, then this one’s for you. No matter how you phrase it: “no offence”, “I’m not trying to be rude”, or “I’m not sexist, but …” the chances of you being one of those things, or all three, are incredibly high.
Just ask pre-med student Azita Rahman.
She recently had to dish out some ‘splaining of her own, and shared a picture of a text exchange with a co-worker who seemed to be pretty annoyed at the fact that Azita was promoted over him because; quote: “the position is more suited to a man”.
Rahman told Buzzfeed that she chose not to ignore the message because she has faced sexism in the workplace before.
To make matters worse, the colleague in question used to make Islamophobic comments about her and her family and is the only reason why she mentioned his “whiteness”.
We don’t know about you, but this girl deserves a medal. Apparently, the rest of the internet thinks so too and has responded in kind, resulting in her tweets going viral. She has since made her account private.
Apparently, we’re not the only ones who think so as the message has gone viral
